Transition Streets is a joint initiative between SEE-Change and The Neighbourhood Effect. When you sign up for the program you'll receive SEE-Change's fortnightly newsletter on local sustainability events, workshops and news. You can unsubscribe from this at any time.
To start a Transition Streets group in your neighbourhood or with your friends, all you need to do is register yourself by filling out the short form at the bottom of this page. We'll send you an email once you’ve signed up with information on how to get started and an invite that you can send to your friends and/or neighbours, asking them to join you!
But first, here's some additional info on data collection and the program's evaluation...
Participating in the Transition Streets Research Study
As part of the 2017 launch, The Neighbourhood Effect is also conducting a research study of the Transition Streets Canberra program to test its effectiveness. When you register for the Transition Streets program below, you’ll be asked if you want to participate in this study. If you choose to participate, the study will examine changes in your and other participants' energy consumption and ecological footprints before and after the Transition Streets program. To participate in the study, you do not need to take any additional steps or make any extra effort beyond just completing the program. However for project management purposes, you and your group will be assigned a start date between July and September. Once your group has registered, we will contact you with the date that your group can begin the program. By consenting to participate in the study, you also consent to The Neighbourhood Effect sharing your de-identified data (that is, anonymised versions of your electricity and gas billing data and an anonymised version of your ecological footprint calculator results) with behavioural science academics, for the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of the Transition Streets program.
Participating in the study is completely opt-in. There’s no obligation to be a part of it, and you can still do the Transition Streets program and not be part of the study. Read about the study in full here.
Giving The Neighbourhood Effect access to your electricity and gas data
You can consent to The Neighbourhood Effect accessing your gas and electricity billing data through ActewAGL, by ticking the consent box below. If you do, we will send you an email to forward to ActewAGL (don't worry - we give you the email address and consent details - all you need to do is add your ActewAGL account details and forward it) to set up this up. The Neighbourhood Effect will use your energy data to calculate reductions in your carbon emissions as a result of changes to your home energy usage during the program. We'll send you your individual emission reduction results once you've completed the program, and we'll add everyone's estimated emission reductions to a tally on our website.
We will only access this data if 1) you provide your consent below, 2) you forward ActewAGL the consent email we send you and 3) you are the registered account holder with ActewAGL.
